Area Top 10, or 20, or 30…A the Halfway Point

I don’t watch local TV sports broadcasts very often, except on Tuesday and Friday nights, after the high school basketball games, to see the highlights and find out the scores of that night’s contests.

I’ve watched a lot of high school games for the past several years.
I like to pay attention to warm-ups, when other spectators are talking or
munching down concession stand food or reading tabloids…I’m not saying I’m a scout, but I am a keen observer.

  While I never quite finished my summation of the ’07-08 High School Season—which was climaxed by Bishop Maginn of Albany’s stunning run to capture the NY State Title, a win in the first round of the Federation, and an ultimate loss to mighty Lincoln of Brooklyn in the Federation Final itself—the AAU season picked up right where that left off.

Impressions of the Shen Summer League 2008

        I know from my own distant memories and current hearsay that there are other summer leagues in the Capital District, at Hoffman Park in Albany and at Colonie High, among others, but the well-run league at Shenendehowa’s Clifton Park Campus through the month of July is the one that Miles’s team played in, and therefore the only one I can say I saw.

Salute to Prior Seniors

I never really got around to writing my traditional Hoop Re-Cap at the end of last season, but I intend to make up for that now, as best as I can. There are some now-graduated seniors I meant to commemorate one more time last spring—guys like Malcolm Austin, Zach O’Brien, Isaiah Duke, Khaliq Gross, DeAndre Kennedy-Ebron, Shimeek Johnson, Terron Victoria, Tashan Newsome, Gerard O’Shea, Brett Marfurt, Devin Grimes, Jordan Gettings, Pat Lanoue, Pat O’Rourke, Evan Christner, Jake Bowman, Dave Fischer, Ryan James, Malachi Mitchell, Shea Bromirski, and Vinnie Nicosia are some of the departed high school players that come to mind.
