Waynesword— In Seasonal Transition:
A Semi-Dormant December ’08, Into a New ’09…

Winter’s Beginning…

The first two snowfalls up here in Middle Grove in early December were just a tease, a taste, a dusting of what real winter would and will be, but it was good not to get socked right away. On the other hand, now that snow (and ice and sleet, in varying doses) has finally been “coming down hard”

Waynesword Late Winter ‘09

Helping Spring Arrive…

In 2009, in the Saratoga-Capital District area, there was NO January thaw. The snow piled all around our house testifies to that. Much of it fell, and none melted. The backrest on our park bench out back was buried, and so was the wrought iron patio furniture.

APRIL, THEN MAY, WAYNESWORD 2009

My last piece was a bit shrill, maybe harsh, I admit, but I was trying to shake things up a bit, with regard to the market, and the weather as well.  As it turns out, I didn’t really have to do anything but keep my head down and keep working hard—both the weather and the local economy would finally improve, slowly, on their own.

June, into July, 2009

Ahhh, June!  This is when the deep greenery reaches maximum intensity up here, after the blooms of May… now comes the season of proms, school field trips, final exams, graduations, and parties…
AAU hoop tournaments, NBA playoff finals, college visits, lawn mowing, gardening, and travel in all directions for work.

Tribute to My Beloved “UNK”—Paul Perras of Avon, Ct.—Sculptor and Artist Extraordinaire, Upon The Month of  His 78th Birthday…

(Allow me to take a temporary break from writing about the vagaries of the weather, the landscape, and the mentality of the real estate market in upstate NY— I’d like to concentrate on a man who has been a great influence on my life, albeit usually from a distance—my late father’s only brother—Paul Richard Perras.  He was always “Uncle Dick” to my siblings and me, but in his shows and public persona, and to any of his own friends, he went by “Paul Perras”—enjoying the fact that he then shared initials with the phenomenal Pablo Picasso…)

Saratoga Potpourri

“I’ve got a Mouthful of Diamonds,
 and a Pocketful of Secrets…”
Phantogram, at the Final Stretch Festival, Saratoga Springs

I’ve said it before, but I like recurrent choruses:  September is my favorite month, in many ways.   Then October is gorgeous in an earthly and mystical palette of its own, and puts us right on the cusp of basketball season, so that’s not so bad either.

Feng Shui As A Verb

(as per Suzee Miller….)

I’ve known about the Chinese phrase “Fung Schway” (to use the pronunciation guide version of those words) for a decade or more, and we have a half-dozen books on the subject lying around the house, but I admit I only recently started really delving into them.  I have been energized on this subject by a former real estate agent in Orange County, California named Suzee Miller, who embraced the principles of Feng Shui in 1996 and ultimately gave up her own lucrative practice six years later once she realized that she could make a great living at teaching other Realtors how to employ the methods and concepts of Feng Shui in their real estate practice.
